Our campaign goal is to bring 200 Military and Gold Star Families and 200 First Responders from the FDNY and NYPD. You can sponsor a family’s trip in its entirety or contribute to their trip.
For Soldiers Returning from Deployment and their Families: The Military Families
We provide a trip to Hilton Head Island at little or no cost to the families. Your donation provides these families with: Accommodations in a 1-3 bedroom fully turnkey condo. The number of bedrooms is dependent upon the number of children in the family. The term 'turnkey' means everything is already in the unit. All sheets, towels and linens. The kitchens are complete with all the dishes, glasses, utensils and everything you need to function. We give each family a pre-paid card so they can buy groceries during their stay. They get a pre-paid card the allows them to take their family out for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a restaurant, once during their stay. They don't have to use all 3 meals the same day. We found out over the years that most families just want to hang out and cook together. They also have access to bike rentals if they'd like to ride a bike on the beach. They get a pre-paid card to pay for gas for the drive back and forth from their respective base Since most families are within 100 miles, it's fairly easy to estimate the cost of driving. Additionally, we give each family member a souvenir of their trip. It costs us, on average, $4,000 per family, per week.
For First Responders Families:
Everything we provide for the Soldier's and Gold Star Families, we provide for these families. Since these families tend to be larger, they will be placed in condos with 3 or more bedrooms. All families live in the Greater New York City area. We will fly them down. Again, the cost of the condo and airfare has to be taken into consideration. We estimate the cost to bring these families to the Island will average $6,500.00. Our goal is to bring 200 First Responder Families to the Island.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All donations go directly to Operation R&R for the purposes of bringing first responders from the FDNY and NYPD to Hilton Head. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is working with ORR to provide worthwhile candidates for this program. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation will not receive any funds from ORR.
Gold Star Families:
With respect to these families: we will bring in the Mother and Father as well as the Surviving Spouse and Children. Everything we provide for the Soldiers’ families, we provide for these families. Since these families have more members they are always placed in a condo with 3 or more bedrooms. Additionally because the parents aren’t usually located near the base their child was stationed, we fly them into town. The cost of the condo and airfare is why their costs are higher. The cost to bring these families to the Island will average $6,500.00 Our goal is to bring 100 Gold Star Families to the Island.
